I am delighted to invite you to the next intensive summer training in Play Therapy practical skills for working with children, which starts now on 28 June and runs until 12 July 2022.
What is Play Therapy training?
The basis of Play Therapy training is non-directive play and art therapy as a safe and effective form of therapy for children with emotional problems, developmental disorders or behavioural problems. Play Therapy utilises the primary activity of children aged 3-12 years, play. Through play, children naturally express themselves and their feelings. The Play Therapy approach addresses the child as a complete individual, including their emotional and social spheres, creativity, communication skills and self-care. Here, the therapist takes an active role as he or she empowers the child to express himself or herself through play by emotionally tuning in to the child. Play Therapy practitioners use a variety of therapeutic tools. During therapy, through unconditional acceptance, children are given the opportunity to exist and be themselves. Therapists use Play Therapy long-term and strategically to help children express what is problematic for them, especially when their clients do not have the verbal skills to express their thoughts and feelings. Play Therapy can also be used with adolescents and adults.
Theory or practice? The training is practical: 70% of the time is made up of exercises that allow you to experience the therapeutic process followed by the child, and show you how to communicate with your clients using the varied therapeutic tools of the 'Play Tool Kit' (sandplay, puppets, therapeutic stories, creative visualisation, movement, Lego, messy play).
